Chemistry Research Paper Topics: How to Choose an Interesting One

Chemistry is truly amazing. It’s basically the magic of science. All those elements and molecules and bits of stuff just working together to create the world we live in. It’s a feat to study it, but sometimes you have to do more than just study it: you have to come up with a good research paper topic. Not everyone can pull a topic out of a hat. Some people need a little bit of help. So why not take our advice on how to choose a good one?

  • Brainstorm
  • Make It Interesting
  • Make It Unique
  • Make It Yours

Brainstorm

Before you start writing, make sure you have a good old fashioned brainstorm. You want to take a few days to simply mull the facts over. Don’t rush in whatever you do It’s ok to wait. Be patient. If you allow yourself the time then you’ll come up with something good. So stop worrying, go for a walk or a coffee and spend the day just thinking. It’ll do you and your paper some good.

Make It Interesting

When you’re picking a topic, don’t just go for the easy choice. Don’t go for something generic and boring, or something common just because you know everyone else is doing it. Try to find a topic that deals with something interesting. Go for something quirky and off hand, something strange or exciting. Don’t be a sheep. Standing out is a good thing in the world of research papers. It’s too easy for your name to get lost in the crowd, but if you choose an interesting topic then chances are your paper will stand out and you’ll be remembered.

Make It Unique

If you can, try to come up with something new. You don’t have to be a genius to find a new answer or ask a new question, but those are definitely the best topics to choose from them all. That way you’re professor will know you work that extra bit harder than the rest, and you’ll get the grades to match.

Make It Yours

If you’re not sure about something interesting and you can’t think of anything new, at least make sure you do it for yourself. Don’t choose something mad for the same of it being mad. Similarly, don’t choose a topic that a friend wants you to do, or that you think the lecturer will like. Make sure you have an interest in it yourself, as that way you’ll at least want to write the paper, and that’s half the battle right there.
