How to come up with good term paper topics in on world history
You most certainly will be asked to write a term paper for your world history class. One of the first steps in the process is to decide on a topic to write about. Having a good topic is important when you are trying to write a term paper because you want to make sure that you have the right amount of supporting evidence to write your paper and you want to make sure that your topic is not too broad that you can’t come up with a generalization about your topic to prove to your audience. You also want to make sure that you write about a topic that interests you. It should be one that you are not bored with before you start.
There are several ways to come up with a good topic. I won’t just list some topics to choose from because you need to find one that interests you. So instead, I will give you some ways to find the topic that interests you.
- Look in your textbook
- Check out the newspaper
- Check out a world history magazine
- Internet lists
This is one of the best ways to find a relevant topic. The reason being is that it will have all of the various topics that will be discussed in the class. Not every teacher will follow the textbook chapter by chapter but all of the information will at least be relevant to the class that you are taking. For example, since this is a world history class, you will have a textbook that discusses history throughout the world and not just in certain countries.
Occasionally you will find interesting topics in the world news section of your newspaper. This will either give you an idea or spark some interest in a similar topic that happened in the past. History usually repeats itself so it may jog your memory about another event in the past. Being able to tie it to a future event is a great way to start your paper as well.
Another great idea is to look in a world history magazine. This will also help you find current topics that you can relate to events in the past or simply write your paper on.
If you are still struggling, you can always look on the internet for topics. There are websites that list different topic ideas. You can either use these sites to pick a topic or use them to brainstorm. I would suggest that you use it to brainstorm new ideas so that you aren’t writing an essay that a million students have written before you.
